Cat Nannies: A Day in the Life

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a Cat Nanny at Maison de Moggy? Well the Nannies have put together a little Blog to tell you all about it!

“Playing with Cats all day must be amazing! It’s my dream job!”

There is way more to being a Cat Nanny than playing with the cats. We have already changed more litter trays today than you’ve had hot chocolates EVER!

We are also the absolute masters of Extreme Waitressing. Can you carry a tray of hot drinks around avoiding: Philippe and Marcel wrestling at your feet; someone swinging a toy above your head; people on the floor; cat trees; keep Elodie away from the cake all while keeping a relaxed smile on your face? It sometimes feels like we are on some kind of hidden camera game show (hang on, is that what the cameras are for?!).

When we do finally get to eat lunch it is of course subject to the approval of the ILIP (The Independent Lunch Inspection Panel). Cats all over you? Excellent lunch choice. Not even Elodie interested? Must try harder.

Yes: we can recite the extensive menu by heart and could recite the house rules in our sleep: we can also tell any cats just from their meow (or poo) but please don’t ask how to get to your hotel…we are shamefully directionally challenged!

We get WAY too invested in the cats love lives. Guillaume totally loves Jacques, but remember that time Jacques headbumped Gui first?! And Amelie and Marcel have been snuggling a lot recently – is this a sign? Are Alain and Coco still a thing? So. Many. Questions.

Are you imagining looking smart to work? Nice black trousers? Think again! At some point you will be grooming 11 very fluffy cats (and possibly bathing a Bad Little Thing). You are going to be wearing half a cat by the end of the day!

Being a Cat Nanny never stops and even on our days off and holidays we are constantly in contact via our group chat. The breakdown of the group chat is as follows…

So how do you really know when you have made it as a Cat Nanny? Simple: The Paw Print. That cute Paw Print on your cappuccino might look simple but it takes MONTHS of practice. You’ll never get away with having a shaky hangover here!

The last part of the day before you head off is the Head Count.  Just to make sure you’ve got everyone and no one is stuck in the loo! You get to 10, or was it 12? Have you counted Seabass twice? OK, count again by breed? One Sphynx, three Ragdolls, two Norwegians, one Chinchilla, one Sphynx…wait, did I already count her? Ok, lets start over…

And that’s it! Being a Cat Nanny becomes a way of life as we care so much for our furry family: no one ever finds it hard to come to work <3

Lily’s Kitchen Crunchy Nibbles

Lily’s Kitchen Crunchy Nibbles cat food was a special treat for our kitties here at MDM. Because our cats are on a prescription diet most of the time, we like to give them something to spice up their pallets and have them able to indulge in a treat every now and again.

Lily’s was a great food to test out on our cats because not only is it an all-natural food, but it also has many health benefits incorporated into their formula, to act as an overall balanced diet for cats and kittens alike. The key benefits from this food that really stood out to us were a digestive formula with added probiotics, the crunchy outer shell which aided in helping with clean and tartar free teeth, and omega 3 fatty acids that not only help with a shiny and healthy coat, but help our younger kittens grow and develop properly .

This food is a great alternative for those who want to keep their pets on a healthy, natural and balanced diet, all the while staying away from generic “filer” filled grocery store alternatives.

Birthday Party and Charity Raffle

Thank you to everyone who came to our Birthday Party at the weekend, what a huge success! It was lovely to spend our special night with our friends, family and those who have supported us along the way. Thanks to the AWESOME Calm Doon Ceilidh Band for keeping us dancing all night, and to The Grassmarket Community Project for hosting us.

During our First Birthday Party last weekend we held a charity raffle in aid of The Cookie Jar Foundation and the Edinburgh MS Therapy Centre.

Both charities are very close to our hearts for many reasons, and with Maclay, Murray and Spence LLP charitable trust DOUBLING all donations we are delighted to announce that we raised a massive £500!

We obviously could not have managed ourselves, we were supported by some wonderful local organisations who very generously donated prizes.

Escape Edinburgh Edinburgh’s first live Escape Game who donated a gift voucher

The Stand Comedy Club One of our favourite Edinburgh institutions donated 2 tickets to any show

Pickering’s Gin Our lovely little local gin producers donated a tour of the distillery, with a wee tipple

Arbikie Gin who donated a bottle of Kirsty’s delicious gin, made in our beautiful Scottish Highlands

Thistly Cross Everyone’s favourite local cider-supplier who donated 12 bottles of their lovely brew (and kept us in cider for the night too!)

The Carlton Hotel The spectacular Carlton Hotel who very generously donated a champagne afternoon tea!

Brodies 1867 A beautiful hamper full of delicious goodies, including their fabulous teas, coffee, hand made choccies and cakes!

Eteaket The lovely people at Eteaket donated a One Cup Starter Kit – a perfect introduction to their glorious teas!

The Royal Yacht Britannia Who donated tickets to explore the UKs number one visitor attraction (and see the Queen’s bed!)

The Scotch Whisky Experience Who donated a voucher for a family tour of their 5 star attraction and to have a wee dram.

And not forgetting Sainsbury’s West Port who donated some very scrummy boxes of chocolates.

No wonder we raised so much money – these were amazing prizes, we are so grateful to everyone who helped this wonderful cause!!

Thank you to Mamma’s Pizza for bringing us their delicious pizza to keep us dancing, it was sooooo good (as always!).

And final thanks must go to Rosanna at Grace & Co Bakery for what was possibly the most amazing Cat Cake we’ve ever seen!!

Here’s to many more!!

Hello fellow cat lovers!

We hope you’ve all had a fantastic Catmas over the holidays, we sure did! I’m sure we can all agree that one of the highlights of Christmas is waking up and getting to open up our long awaited gifts. Who doesn’t love gifts? Well, our Moggies were very spoilt this year just like anyone else, and they scored some lovely new toys that seem to be going over very well! We’re here to share those toys with you, in hopes that they will in turn tickle the fancy of your own kitties!

We received some “Pods” from a company called Cat FurNature, which are boxes that you assemble at home. They have sizable holes on alternate sides of the box that your cat can go in and out of for easy access. Our favourite feature of this was the little “paw holes” that are cut out of each box’s corners. Our cats loved this when they spotted a paw dangling out of the box, but saw no cat! These Pods take a few minutes to assemble with easy instructions, and also come with some complimentary cat nip! It’s not a surprise that our cats loved these right away- cats LOVE boxes, and were sure they will be a hit in your household too! Visit to order some of your own. (they even have a feature to customize the boxes with your kitties’ names on, how fun!)

Elodie’s Christmas Jumper Competition!

It’s that time of year, friends! The nights are drawing in and for our less furry friend that means updating the winter wardrobe.

We know that a lot of you are very creative and as such we thought we would have some fun together to make some beautiful Christmas knits for Elodie!

Her measurements are 19cm neck, 31cm long, 30cm waist. If you send her a Christmas jumper we will post Elodie wearing it on FB and Twitter and the jumper with the most likes will win the grand prize (we will also have runners up prizes).

Well – all that’s left is to say ‘Good luck!’ Please email or call us if you need further information.
